Monthly CPI Newstats Releases

Each month, the Bureau of Statistics publishes a Newstats document presenting price statistics for Yellowknife based on the Consumer Price Index release by Statistics Canada. The current CPI Newstats release for October 2009 is available for viewing or for downloading.

Note to readers

Statistics Canada has announced a major update of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to reflect changes in the spending patterns of Canadian households. The update is effective with this release of the May 2007 CPI.

The update includes two major changes:

(1) the weights of various items in the basket of goods and services used to calculate the index have been updated from 2001 to 2005; and

(2) the CPI base year (the period for which the value 100 is assigned to the index) has changed from 1992 to 2002.

Users should note that the changeover to the base year 2002=100 in no way alter rates of changes measured for previous periods.
