2011 Census Population and Dwelling Counts (02/08/2012)
Census information released today by Statistics Canada indicates that the population count of the Northwest Territories was 41,462 persons at the time of the 2011 census, virtually no change from the 2006 count. Results indicate that the count of occupied private dwellings in the Northwest Territories was 14,700 in 2011, an increase of 3.3% since 2006.

January Labour Force Survey (02/03/2012)
For January 2012, Statistics Canada estimates that 22,000 out of 32,100 residents 15 years of age and older were employed in the Northwest Territories, representing an employment rate of 68.5%. Overall, Canada’s employment rate stood at 61.1% in January. Since December 2011, employment in the NWT fell by 100 persons.

Consumer Price Index -December 2011 (01/20/2012)
Information released today by Statistics Canada indicates that the Yellowknife All-Items Consumer Price Index rose 3.5% from December 2010. By comparison, the annual price increase was 2.3% for Canada, 2.9% for Edmonton and 2.8% for Whitehorse.

Quarterly Population Estimates - October 2011 (12/20/2011)
On October 1, 2011 Statistics Canada estimated that 43,485 people were living in the Northwest Territories, a decrease of 0.7% from the previous year. By comparison, Canada’s population increased by 1.0% over the same period. All of the other provinces and territories experienced positive growth between October 1, 2010 and October 1, 2011, with a high of 1.7% in Alberta.

Gross Domestic Product - 2010 Final (11/08/2011)
Information released today by Statistics Canada indicate that in 2010 real GDP increased by 1.1% in the NWT to $3,132 milion chained dollars (market prices). This was the smallest increase among the provinces and territories. By comparison, GDP for Canada rose by 3.2% between 2009 and 2010.
